Fountainhead Announces 2022 Residency Artists

With a shift to themed residencies, Fountainhead will experiment with artists’ power to shape the future

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - November 8, 2021 - Miami, FL. Fountainhead announces its 2022 artist residency selections, a roster of 30 exceptional contemporary artists working across various media and around the world. In 2022, selected artists will live and work in Miami under specific themes, designed to create a common thread among the artists-in-residence while offering the community a platform from which they can engage with their ideas and experiences.

Fountainhead’s selection process takes multiple approaches. Nominations are sourced from Fountainhead’s artist alumni network, longstanding curatorial collaborators and cultural partners. Fountainhead additionally hosts one open call per year. Artists’ applications are then  reviewed by juries of renowned artists, curators, and arts writers, including Danny Baez (Founder, Art Noir, MECA Art Fair, and Regular Normal); Diana Nawi (Co-Curator, Prospect 5 New Orleans); Mark Thomas Gibson (Fountainhead alumnus, 2021 Pew Fellowship recipient); Larry Ossei-Mensah (Curator, cultural critic and co-founder, ARTNOIR) Monica Uszerowicz (Author and Critic, Creative Capital Art Writers Grantee); Nanette Carter (Artist and professor, Pratt Institute); Rene Morales (Chief Curator, Perez Art Museum Miami); Omar Lopez Chahoud (Curator and Artistic Director, UNTITLED art fair); Ombretta Agro’ Andruff (Founder and executive director of ArtSail); Steve Miller, (Artist and entrepreneur); Tami Katz Freiman (Independent curator and former director of Tel Aviv Museum); Terrie Sultan (Independent curator and cultural consultant and former director, Parrish Art Museum)

“It has been truly incredible to witness Fountainhead's evolution since I first arrived in Miami 10 years ago," says juror Diana Nawi. "The caliber of artists whose work we both reviewed and selected for residencies is a testament to the incredible community and reputation that has formed around the organization. After a lively and dynamic selection process, many hard decisions were made; we're incredibly happy for this year's cohort and are excited to explore their work through this new thematic framework."

Juror René Morales adds that “Next year’s lineup of residents at Fountainhead looks stellar and promises to be extremely enriching for both the visiting artists and the Miami arts community.
