Works by artists from Miami’s Fountainhead residency are all around Art Week fairs

When Kathryn and Dan Mikesell started the Fountainhead artists residencies back in 2008, they wanted to elevate artists who often were under-represented in the art world. “I was still working in tech then,” said Kathryn. “We used to fly artists in on our frequent flyer miles.” Over the past 16 years, the one-month Fountainhead residencies have become a significant connection point for emerging artists, thanks to support from foundations and individuals. More than 580 artists, three at a time, have been chosen through a competitive process for the opportunity to connect with each other and Miami art lovers. Among past fellows are art stars Derek Adams and Christina Quarles.
