Purvis Young was an artist from and of the streets of Overtown. His paintings, drawings, and site-specific works are celebrated for their raw emotion and social commentary on the struggles and spirit of urban life. Rising to acclaim upon his passing, Young’s legacy endures through exhibitions and acquisition by major institutions like the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of American Art, and numerous local museums including Perez Art Museum and ICA Miami. After the exhibition, we’ll encounter various reptiles, birds, and sea creatures on a guided walk of Bear Cut trail.
