Fountainhead Experience Members are invited to join us for an artist-led walkthrough of Guillermo Garcia Cruz: Divergent Structures at Piero Atchugarry.
Working in the tradition of the Latin American constructivists, Guillermo Garcia Cruz adheres to the idea that painting should not be constrained by the rectangular canvas; instead, the shape of the canvas should follow the structure of the painting. Cruz’s paintings and sculptures are always on the verge of separating, of multiplying into other parts, seeking their own life by fragmenting their body-structure into the contextual space. For his exhibition at Piero Atchugarry curated by Rina Gitlin, Cruz presents an installation where disjointed sculptural geometry reveals a landscape that intertwines the physical and digital realms. In this work, his most ambitious exploration beyond the canvas, the Uruguayan-born artist examines the impact of technology on contemporary life through metaphor. He uses pillars of varying sizes to express strong contrasts between the organic and inorganic matter, as well as dynamic and static forms.
The Fountainhead Experience membership program is for those who want to see the world differently and develop intimate relationships with artists and art appreciators. This season, Fountainhead members will be immersed in the local landscape, with behind-the-scenes tours of private collections, artist-led experiences , and more.
